Lady Diana’s 1985 Dress Gets Sold At 11 Times Higher Price Than Estimated

It’s long since Princess Diana has parted ways with the world. However, she was a true diva in her own right, and her fashion sense continues to impress us. Recently, Julien’s Hollywood Legends auction saw an outfit of Princess Diana getting sold at an 11 times higher price than estimated.

Julien’s Auction, based in Beverly Hills announced that the dress was auctioned at $1,143,000, which is much higher than the estimated price of $604,800. Jacques Azagury, a Moroccan-British fashion designer, designed the dress. This also has set a record for being an outfit of Princess Diana to be sold at the highest rate.

Princess Diana wore the dress in 1985 in Florence, Italy. She wore the dress to the dinner hosted by the mayor of Florence, Italy. She attended the dinner with her husband, Prince Charles, when the couple was on a royal tour.

In the next year, she wore the dress in Vancouver, Canada. She attended the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra’s May 1986 performance in that outfit. The event took place at Vancouver’s Orpheum Theater.

The black velvet bodice with star embroidery was the main attraction of the outfit. At the auction, the outfit was sold with a matching illustration.

However, this is not the only outfit of the princess to get sold at Julien’s Auction. There was also a chiffon blouse that she wore for her engagement portrait. Her engagement portrait was captured in 1981. The blouse was sold at the auction at a whopping $381,000. This one also broke all the estimates and got sold at a four-time higher price than expected.

In addition, a red sweater of the princess with a black sheep design was on auction in recent times. The sweater was sold at more than $1.1 million at an auction in Sotherby, New York.
