Top 20 Cool Outfits For The Summer

Summer is not just about looking good, but also feeling good. Especially with the current state of global warming, and the ice caps melting, feeling hot is inevitable.

But, at the same time you must prepare for the Spring showers. So, as a fashionista myself my outfits not just need to be cool, but practical.

However, that doesn’t mean I will stop wearing my cool outfits. I just need to be a little more pragmatic to ensure I am not boiling inside.

Hence began the age-old weekend do-to list!

Going through my wardrobe and finding the looks for the next few days. (Yes, I sit and scout through my outfits on a Saturday night rather than having a night out! It makes me happy.)

But I can’t just look great while beating the New York weather without sharing the same with you people.

So, for everyone who is also in the same dilemma, then get your pen & paper out and get ready to scout your wardrobe!

What is the Definition of Cool Outfits

It is quite subjective, but for me, it is something which makes me look put together without compromising in comfort.

Contrary to popular belief, it is not about following every TikTok trend (unless you really like it). However, for me, it has always been one principle –

“I wear the cloths; the cloths do not wear me.”

Therefore, cool outfits in summer are always comfortable for me! It is good that the trends are also catching up to that principle.

Most importantly, keep in mind the week’s weather forecast. Afterall, dressing yourself in winter is easier. However, weather during the beginning of summer is unpredictable, especially when we can be hit with April showers at any time.

It is beautiful but also inconvenient if you are running errands or having a simple outdoor day!

So, here are my ways of looking cool while tackling this unpredictable summer weather.

1. I Check the Weather Forecast

Yes, the weather forecast is the most important thing to check before dressing yourself. If there is any chance of rain, my accessories become waterproof.

Whether that is a waterproof tote bag or wearing a dress rather than pants, which might get dirty.

I always wear my black canvas chunky boots. They are highly comfortable and easy to walk in the rain as well.

2. Always Carry an Extra Pair of Shoes

Not saying you need to stuff your bag with giant boots, and vans. However, simple slip sandals, and heels are easier to carry.

If you are wearing closed shoes for a long time, it will eventually get sweaty, and you will feel very uncomfortable.

It just gets easier to open them, refresh your feet, and dawn a pair of cute summer slip sandals. Your feet also need some fresh air.

If you work in an office setting, you can keep one pair of comfortable and breathable shoes (which also look equally formal) at your desk.

3. Umbrella is Also an Accessory

If you are a fashionista, you will understand this emotion. Even functionality has style, which is how we build cool outfits.

Therefore, I know that if there is a summer April shower, I can always flaunt my aesthetic umbrella, even though it gets a little chilly outside!

4. Carry a Long Coat

No matter how much the summer heat bothers me, nothing is more unbearable than the chilly winds. Summer showers are beautiful if you are indoors looking at them from a giant window.

However, when it comes to running outdoor errands, your hair, and your clothes will see the worst of the rain.

This is why carrying a fashionable coat is both fashionable and convenient. Additionally, you should carry a satin scarf, which will protect your hair while giving you that chic old Hollywood look.

It might not be everyone’s definition of a cool outfit, but the right audience will adore this look.

5. One Sunglass Can Change a Look

If there is one accessory that I cannot leave my house without every summer, it is my sunglasses.

I always keep a few pairs handy because they can instantly change my look. I can go from 50s chic to 90s supermodel in a matter of seconds.

Plus, I do not even need to mention how important it is for a hot summer day.

Key elements of a cool summer outfit

A cool summer outfit is one that not only keeps you feeling comfortable in the heat but also elevates your style and makes you stand out from the crowd.

In this section, we will discuss the key elements of a cool summer outfit that will help you achieve a chic and effortless look.

1. Light Fabrics

The first and most important element of a cool summer outfit is choosing light fabrics. Opt for breathable materials like cotton, linen, rayon, or chambray, as they allow airflow and prevent you from feeling too hot and sticky.

These fabrics also have a natural cooling effect on the skin, making them perfect for hot and humid weather.

2. Bright Colors

Summer is all about vibrant colors and playful prints. To add some visual interest to your outfit, incorporate bright colors like yellow, orange, pink or blue into your ensemble. Go for pastel shades if you prefer a softer look.

Just make sure to keep the color palette cohesive throughout your entire outfit so it doesn’t look too overwhelming.

3. Flowy Silhouettes

Another key element of a cool summer outfit is choosing loose and flowy silhouettes that don’t cling to your body too much.

This allows air circulation while giving you freedom of movement. Maxi dresses, flowy skirts, or palazzo pants are great options for achieving this effortless look.

4. Statement Accessories

Accessorizing can take any simple outfit to the next level and instantly add some personality to your look.

Incorporate statement accessories like oversized sunglasses, straw hats, or colorful scarves into your summer outfits to give them some extra oomph.

5. Shoes

For shoes in the summertime, comfort should always be prioritized over fashion trends. Opt for open-toed sandals or sneakers instead of closed-toe shoes to keep your feet cool and comfortable.

You can also play around with different styles like wedges, espadrilles, or flip-flops to match your outfit.

6. Layering

Layering may not seem ideal for the summer heat, but it can add depth and interest to your outfits.

Opt for lightweight layers like a denim jacket or a light cardigan that you can easily remove if needed. This will also come in handy during cooler evenings.

7. Confidence

Finally, the most important element of a cool summer outfit is confidence!

Whatever you choose to wear, own it with confidence and make it your own unique style. After all, there’s nothing cooler than being comfortable in your own skin.

Another layering item which should be in your closet is a crochet cardigan or top. I cannot press upon how much this has helped me elevate any of my summer outfits. Embrace your inner cottagecore style!

Baggy jeans are a must have causal item for the summer. They are extremely comfortable for those extra hot days when you do not want to wear anything tight, because they all seem to uncomfortably stick to your sweaty body.

By regency style, we mean dresses with a higher umpire waste and breathability. It is generally made with cotton, which makes it even more summer-friendly. This summer, let us all be pastel regency children.

10. Elegant Sheer Dresses

Sheer with a few risky flashes, but not tacky! That is my summer motto this year. Cutouts blend the purpose to be colorful, sexy, and breathable at the same time.

I generally ditch my LBD (keeping them for the witchy fall season) and wear a sheer dress with bodycon underneath for a summer evening or night out.

11. Tennis Skirts

If Queen Zendaya is wearing it, we all need it in our wardrobe!

Tennis skirts are making a comeback this summer. They are chic, stylish, and versatile.

Summer weather (especially in New York) can be extremely unpredictable. This is why it is important to always carry a light layer with you.

For me, it will always be a good Varsity jacket. I can pair it with any of the items given above!

13. Denim Jackets

Another layer which is a must have in your wardrobe is a denim jacket. Especially if you want to rock that denim on denim look this summer.

Bandana tops remind us of the Tumbler summer staple, circa 2016. Since many trends from that era are coming back, why not rock our bandana tops again.

They will go perfectly with our new-age baggy jeans, bell bottoms, or even trousers.

15. Strapless Dresses

Carrie Bradshaw taught us a few life lessons. One of them is rocking a strapless solid color dress during the summer season.

I am so tempted to recreate her green strapless dress, blue bag, and red pump heels this summer!

19. Slide Sandals

We are not always in the mood for heels. So, keeping a pair of flat sandals handy this summer is crucial.
